Copenhagen, Denmark

Hyrum and I returned home from Turkey on April 29th, on May 3rd I was off on another adventure.  Poor Hyrum, I left him on the very day the movers were coming to take all our household goods to Oregon.  At least he had Oma here to help him out during that crazy time.

So, where was I heading?  I was off on a cruise around the Baltic Sea for 11 days with three of my friends.  The first stop, Copenhagen, Denmark.

Here we are trying to close the trunk after loading the car full of luggage, it was a tight squeeze!

How many GPS's does it take to get to Copenhagen?  We had these two GPS's plus a printed out map, just in case.

Copenhagen is the city of the famous storyteller, Hans Christian Andersen.

Our friend Nadja is from Copenhagen and she said we had to try the "French Hot Dogs" they were pretty yummy but I'm not sure why they are called that???

We walked all around Copenhagen.  This is the New Harbor and it was a wonderful sunny day so it was packed with locals hanging out in the sunshine.

On our walk we went into the Cathedral of Our Lady to see this statue of Christ.  There is a replica of this statue in the Salt Lake City visitors center.  It was pretty neat to see the original sculpture.

We wandered around and found this little town of Christiania.  It's basically a commune where people live rent free and sell marijuana to the tourists.

An artsy gate leading into the children's playground.

Crazy hand sculpture made from a  tree trunk.  Christiania was pretty funky, it was fun to visit but there is no way I would want to live there!

Our walking tour ended at a sculpture of the Little Mermaid, one of Hans Christian Andersen's more famous tales.

We stayed the night in Copenhagen (our boat didn't leave until Saturday afternoon).  The next morning we attended a session at the temple and then had a few more hours to explore one more sight, Our Savior's Church.

Our Saviors Church.  We climbed up to the top of the spire...on the OUTSIDE of the spire.

Walking up and around the spire of the church.  I have been to the top of many church towers but this was the first time you had to walk on the outside of the spire!

At the very top of the spire.  It was really windy up there and I have to admit, I was glad to come down:)

By the afternoon we were ready to board the Norwegian Sun cruise ship for our fun trip around the Baltic Sea.  More adventures to come!!

  1. Oh my goodness Rachelle, was this the frantic I have to see everything in Europe before I am banished to Oregon tour? You have been just a go, go, going! It makes my head spin! It looks like you had a great time and how will you ever leave that fun group of friends? Cheers to your next life! It will be a whole different world! Literally!
