What sort of insanity possessed us to travel an hour away to Nuernberg the Monday after Christmas to go to Ikea? To say that it was a madhouse would have been putting it lightly. I have never seen that many people in one place before (and I have been to a Billy Ray Cyrus concert!) After 3 hours of hiking through the store to pick up a very few items and then standing in a line that was "2 kilometers long" according to the man behind me we finally escaped. We will never do THAT again!
After this crazy adventure we needed to rest our minds and get away for a while. As we were driving home we came across just the thing to put us back in harmony with the universe...a hike. A few miles northeast of Nuernberg we found a castle perched up on a hillside (I know, you are completely shocked that we found such a place!) This place was called Festung Rothenberg and was built in the 1750's. It happened to be closed this particular day but the hike up to the top of the hill was nonetheless fantastic. It was another sunny yet freezing cold day but the boys enjoyed playing in the ice they found on all the mud puddles during the hike.
I don't think we will ever tire of visiting old castle ruins. First of all, it's a castle RUIN so the boys really can't destroy anything. Second, it's outside so the boys can't disturb anyone with their running around being crazy. It's pretty much the best activity we have found to do as a family here in Germany.
Hey Rachelle, I just want you to know that I miss you so much! It brings a smile to my face to read your blog updates and hear your fun personality. Thanks for having this blog. You're the best! And, I just read about you having a boy, don't worry. You are a total expert at the boy thing. And the pregnancy hormones adding to the emotion... well I totally hear you. I've been reacting to many things extremely emotionally. It just adds to the everyday joys of pregnancy. Oh, and it seems like you are catching on to the German lingo pretty well. I'm totally impressed with you being able to read the signs and knowing all of the history when you visit places. TOTALLY impressed. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. When's your due date? --Krissy
ReplyDeleteLOVE that picture of the two boys with the sun...definitely frame-worthy. We miss you...but looks like you guys are keeping busy with all sorts of fun activities. You are a good mom to do so much!
ReplyDeleteYeah! Thanks for all the new posts. Your boys are adorable even if they do try your patience. I always think that same kind of thought when my kids are asleep all peaceful and QUIET! Kids are great but they are not for the feint of heart!
ReplyDeleteThat reminds me of our visit to Scotland and just driving through the country and happening upon an old castle ruin. Glorius fun! Happy New Year to all of you...it looks like you have not escaped our weather! We will both enjoy this cold, snowy winter. Love you tons, Karen
ReplyDeleteRachelle, love all of your updates. It is so fun being able to see and read all the fun times you are having. Super Congrats on the baby boy. At least you have practice!!! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Thanks for your letter!
ReplyDeleteOh, seeing them in those pjs and outside, really makes them seem sooooo old! I still have this picture of you on my computer that I just adore and really makes me think of motherhood in its glory- (rather than in its agonizing nine months of body expanding.)
ReplyDeleteIt's such a miracle.
They are gorgeous little boys and are going to break hearts one day.
Do you ever think about how you are going to handle their first crush, or the first time they come home with a girl... or what if they 'engage' in activities.... that sort of stuff.... oh my.... i suppose we just want to raise healthy happy children... right?
I have to come see you while you are in Germany.... I'm saving up!
What an adventure you guys are having in Germany. We sure miss you. If you meet any Knorpps let me know. Thanks for the Christmas card. Do you have a name for your boy!? Isn't Adolf a popular name over there?
