We took a short trip to Muenchen (or Munich) just for fun. All though I'm not really sure if the boys find these trips to old German cities much fun. We did walk around the altstadt on a very cold morning, got some hot cocoa and croissants for breakfast, listened to the Carillon bells (Glockenspiel) at the town hall and walked around the INSIDE of a beautiful cathedral. I told the boys before we walked in that they had to wait outside with Daddy while I walked around inside because they couldn't be trusted to stay quiet while inside. Emerson said, "no, mommy, just see about it." So we took them inside and they were so good. They didn't touch anything, they didn't talk too loudly. They stood right next to us and walked around. I was very amazed. Their favorite part of the cathedral was to stand in the "black footprint." The story goes that the devil came to look at the cathedral while it was under construction and seeing, from where he was standing, there were no windows he laughed out loud and mocked the church. He took one step forward and all of a sudden a whole row of windows opened up to his view at which point he became so mad that he stomped his foot on the floor and the black footprint was made and has been there ever since!
I love Munich!! SO much to do. If you ever have time to go (probably without the boys), you both should visit Dachau - very humbling experience.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I visited Munich on our European honeymoon...listening to the places you describe in Munich brought back good memories! The glockenspiel was fabulous, and the churches there are magnificent.
